Background School counselors play an integral role in promoting culturally responsive classrooms. Before starting this assignment, consider the following: Why is it important for school counselors to directly acknowledge students' diversity in classroom settings? How can school counselors assist teachers in gaining skills to address student diversity in their classrooms? Instructions For this assignment, you are asked to develop a presentation for an in-service for staff and faculty at a specific K-12 school or community college setting focused on the school counselor's role in promoting diversity and how to best serve student populations from one of the following groups: Asian and Pacific Islander Black, Indigenous, and People of Color/ Global Majority Latin@ LGBQIA+ Transgender Homeless and/or Students in Poverty You may choose to develop this presentation for the school at which you are currently employed, a school that you are familiar with, or find a school in the California Schools dashboard. The goal is to create a presentation that you could use in your practice as a school counselor. The presentation should include the following: An overview of the school or college you have selected, including background information and demographics Achievement data for your specific school or college, disaggregated for the specific student population chosen Challenges and/or barriers students face Recommendations and strategies to best serve the student population Candidates may choose to create their presentation via PowerPoint, Prezi, video, etc. Requirements Length: This assignment must be 10-15 slides (excluding the title and reference page).
